The renowned publisher has secured a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the development team at 31st Union, which is currently developing the anticipated over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Leadership Transition Comes After Lukewarm Reception

The new appointee takes on the leadership position at 31st Union following the exit of former leader Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' disappointing initial reveal last autumn.

Recently, 2K president David Ismailer notified employees about this strategic move through an internal memo, which stressed that early feedback sessions had shown the need for a more defined vision.

The president expressed that the developers is now overhauling Project Ethos with a renewed approach, aiming to satisfy gamer demands.

A Pattern of Strategic Acquisitions

The news echoes a similar step taken by the publisher in August, when they recruited an industry veteran from the Diablo team to contribute to the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.

Through your commitment and flexibility, particularly over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.

The community feedback from last autumn’s Project ETHOS testing phase was revealing. It validated the promise of a action-packed game but told us we still had work to do. It highlighted the need for a more distinct identity.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve come. You accepted the criticism to mind and overhauled Project ETHOS with a refreshed goal - one that’s ready to deliver on its promise to our audience.

Our confidence in Project ETHOS grows every day. To advance the outstanding progress you’ve made, It is a pleasure to announce Ben Brinkman as the latest Director of 31st Union. After a period of conversations, Ben comes aboard us on Monday, October 20.

His guidance and background in the competitive gaming field is extensive, having devoted the past decade and a half developing and leading some of the most recognizable series in gaming, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, Apex Legends.
