French authorities to begin stopping small boats in Channel after UK pressure
French officials have consented to start stopping small boats in the English Channel, after months of pressure from the UK.
This policy shift comes after the British leader wrote to the President urging him to back the plan and stating there currently "have no effective deterrent" in the Channel.
French maritime police will be allowed to intercept the small boats at sea, but exclusively prior to they've picked up their passengers, according to authoritative statements.
French authorities have infrequently acted to stop the heavily loaded boats leaving the coastline because it is considered excessively high a danger to both personnel and individuals.
"It is essential that we deploy these methods this month... We have zero effective prevention in the Channel."
Currently, a French maritime police spokesperson states officers will start intervening at sea, with the aim of protecting human life.
Notably, the official excluded the use of nets to intercept boats, which had previously been reported as a potential method to snarl the propellers of the vessels.
This determination to take action at all is a major advancement, following a short-lived change towards a stricter approach this warmer season, which dropped off when the previous government official left government.
That was highlighted in July, in the run-up to a meeting between the Prime Minister and President, when authorities were observed walking into the sea to damage the sides of a boat.
Now French authorities will again be allowed to stop boats prior to they collect migrant passengers from the coastal areas of France's north coast, although it's uncertain how the vessels will be stopped.
Powerful gusts are currently delaying the start of intervention operations and the human trafficking networks will be looking for ways to adjust to avoid detection, as they have frequently done in the previous instances.
